Nevertheless, the vertebral column can be damaged, especially where the curvature ofthe spine alters. The mechanical stresses which result from the change in direction at the thoracolumbar junction (Ti 1-L2) or sacrolumbar junction are amplified by the differing mobility above and below the junction. These areas are therefore common sites ofinjury when the vertebral column is subjected to abnormal forces.
